In many cases, children have deep grooves in the permanent molars and brushing is often difficult. In these cases, the dentist will suggest sealing these molars. This means that a thin layer of synthetic resin is applied to the tooth, which protects it and makes it easier to brush. With this treatment there is no drilling and no pain is experienced.
A sealant is also chosen in some cases to seal incipient cavities from the oral environment.
